The Mandarin Museum and Historical Society and the Mandarin Community Club have joined together to present the 3rd Thursday Lecture Series. Programs are held at the MCC Building 12447 Mandarin Road, and will start with refreshments at 6:30 PM followed by the lecture at 7 PM. All programs are open to the public and are free of charge. Trains On Track for Lecture at Mandarin Community Club, August 19 Locomotive engineer Paul Pleasant will present a lecture about railroads in North Florida at 7 PM on Thursday, August 19 at the Mandarin Community Club, 12447 Mandarin Road. The Lecture is part of the Third Thursday Lecture Series sponsored by the Mandarin Museum & Historical Society and the Mandarin Community Club. Attendees are welcome to join beginning at 6:30 PM for refreshments. Pleasant is a Jacksonville native. He served 23 years in the Navy before becoming an engineer with the St. Marys Railroad. “I have had a keen interest in trains and railroading since I was a child and running a locomotive is the realization of a lifelong dream,” said Pleasant. The Mandarin Community Club, in conjunction with the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), will hold an official flag retirement ceremony for aged, weathered or worn American flags on Saturday, August 7. The ceremony will be held on Club grounds at 2 PM. All interested parties are invited to bring their flags to the ceremony. A collection box will also be located on the steps of the Club building August 2 - 7 for those interested in drop off. For further information, contact the Club office at 268-1622.

Emily Lisska ____________ Our sincere congratulations go out to MCC Life Member and current Board member Emily Lisska upon receiving the Florida Historical Society's Caroline P. Rossetter Award winner. As such, she's the 2010 Outstanding Woman in Florida History. Bill Bosworth _____________ The Mandarin Community Club honored Dr. Bill Bosworth with the dedication of a newly planted Valencia orange tree at their Billard Commemorative Park on Saturday, June 19. A plaque commemorating the event was placed at the foot of the tree during the ceremony. Approximately thirty Club members and friends gathered for the occasion which was held at 4 PM. A Life Member of the MCC, Dr. Bosworth retired from the Board of Directors this past January after many years of service. He served a term as MCC President in 2002 and has been active for more than two decades with the Mandarin Art Festival. Photos from this event may be viewed on "Club Picture Gallery."
