LECTURE SERIES
The 3rd Thursday Lecture Series, a joint offering of the Mandarin Museum and Historical Society and the Mandarin Community Club, will be conducted on a quarterly basis in 2012. Programs will continue to be held at the MCC Building, 12447 Mandarin Road, starting with refreshments at 6:30 PM and the lecture at 7 PM. All programs remain open to the public and are free of charge.

The Mandarin Community Club hosted a Holiday Dinner Celebration for their members on December 15. Held at the Club building, 12447 Mandarin Road, the event was intended to show appreciation to members for their support over the past year. Attendees were treated to a traditional holiday dinner and entertainment by Broadway Kid Starz under the direction of Kathleen Myrick. Donations for the Mandarin Food Bank were collected, a tradition the Club has sponsored for over a decade.
Election of the Officers and Board for the upcoming year also took place on December 15. Those elected for 2012 were President, Susie Scott; Vice President, Emily Lisska; Treasurer, Robert McLean, and Secretary, Betty Wolfe. Perhaps best known as the host and sponsor for the annual Mandarin Art Festival held every Easter weekend, the Mandarin Community Club invites all interested parties to become members. The 2012 membership drive starts this month. For more information, visit the web site or call 268-1622. Membership categories range from Individual and Family to Life. Businesses are encouraged to join at a special Business Level.

Community Club receives Certificate of Appreciation from SAR
For the past two years, The Mandarin Community Club has been proud to be the host of a Flag Retirement Ceremony conducted by SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) for the proper and honorable disposal of used or worn American flags. The number of flags collected for disposal had grown to several hundred by this past August when the last ceremony was held.
At their November meeting, SAR President Gray Chandler presented a Certificate of Appreciation to MCC President Susie Scott for the Club’s help with this event.
The Club will continue to collect flags as a service to the community and to ensure that the symbol of our great country is treated with respect and honor when no longer serviceable. Look for the collection box at Club activities and events or call 268-1622 to arrange drop off. The next Flag Retirement Ceremony will be SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2012.
