41st Mandarin Art Festival a Success
Another edition of the Mandarin Art Festival is history and one we can all be very proud of. Great weather, great artists, a great team of volunteers, generous backing from our sponsors and widespread support from the community made for a successful event.
Very special thanks go out to Susie Scott, our 2009 Festival Chairwoman. Under her direction, this year's event was a blend of tradition and new ideas and an unqualified success. Her team of volunteers started work early last fall and put in countless hours in order to maintain the Festival at the high level it has become known to achieve. We would also like to recognize and thank our artist coordinators and jurists for 2009, Chris Hiday, Julie Fetzer and Judy Culpepper, for their hard work and attention to detail.
The other numerous committees ranging from publicity, to grounds and lay out, to the bake sale, were headed by MCC Board members and allied volunteers too many to name but a sincere thank you goes out to each and every one of them for a job well done.
We were pleased to have Mary Baer, local personality and anchorwoman for WJXT-TV4, serve as our Celebrity Guest Judge this year. Both the Mandarin Art Festival and the Mandarin Community Club are grateful to her for her support.
Our major sponsors this year were the Mandarin Newsline, Mandarin Hearing and Balance Center, Scott Alarm, and Solantic Urgent Care. In addition, Gallery Framery returned as the sponsor for the Children’s Art Show for the fourth straight year. We would like to acknowledge their assistance and express our sincere appreciation for their support.
Again, the Children’s Art Show, held inside the Club building both days of the MAF, was one of our most popular attractions. Months of preparation and hard go into this part of the Festival. A total of eighteen elementary and middle schools participated this year. Thank you to our CAS Chairwoman, Chris Buckley, as well our area students, their parents and their teachers. Drawing lessons, courtesy of Cathy David and Young Rembrandts, were offered for the second year and were a definite hit with our younger visitors.
And speaking of our younger visitors: hundreds of children participated in our traditional Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday. Held at the Walter Jones Historical Park, the hunt was jointly sponsored by the Mandarin Community Club and the Mandarin Museum and Historical Society. Our sincere appreciation to Andy Morrow and his group of volunteers for helping to put together such a wonderful event.
Next year, the Mandarin Art Festival will be on April 3 and 4. We hope to continue this year’s success and enthusiasm and look forward to hosting what will be our 42nd annual event.
